SUMMARY:MOM's Club *
DESCRIPTION:We are a support group designed just for you\, the at-home mother! You are interested in the world around you\, want a variety of activities for you and your children\, and are proud of your choice of at-home mothering for your families! We know\, because we’re at-home mothers\, too! \nYou need a support group that understands your special needs as an at-home mother and we’re it! We are the first\, largest and fastest growing support group specifically for ALL at-home mothers. \nWe know that you made a choice to be an at-home mother\, and that choice is not easy in today’s world. We understand that being an at-home mother does not mean you “don’t work” — ALL mothers work\, whether they work taking care of their children at home or work full-brim outside the home. \nIn fact\, it’s pretty impossible to draw a line between at-home mothers and working mothers — indeed\, it’s never been that simple. Many of our members do work for pay. Probably more than half do something that the Department of Labor considers makes them “working moms.” They work part time\, they work in family businesses (often without pay)\, they work at home or they work out of the home full-time in schedules that allow them to be home with their children during the day. Mothers are very creative at how they afford to stay home to be with their children. \nBecause of that\, it’s not easy to define what a working mother is. But\, an at-home mother is one who is taking care of her children\, herself. She may have help from family or part-time sitters or preschool\, but overall\, she has arranged her schedule to be able to raise her children\, at-home\, herself. \nIt’s those long day-time hours that can be so difficult for at-home mothers. That’s why the MOMS Club plans virtually all of our activities during the day\, when at-home mothers most need the support. \nAnd\, that’s why our members can bring their children with them to just about everything we do. You don’t have to hire a sitter to go to one of our meetings. Having children with us is just part of being a mother-at-home and we understand that. We believe you should be able to participate in the community — with your children. Being an at-home mother should not isolate you. \nOur chapters plan all sorts of activities for their mothers and children. There are playgroups\, babysitting coops and holiday parties\, of course\, because moms love that for their kids. But there are also stimulating activities specifically geared for the moms. Activity groups share interests like cooking\, couponing\, crafts\, outings\, books and exercise. \nEach chapter plans at least one service project to benefit needy children in their community. That can be as simple as collecting toys for foster children to something as elaborate as planning fundraisers and creating a new playground\, or helping a new wing of a children’s hospital. \nAnd each chapter has a monthly meeting with an interesting speaker or topic for discussion. Speakers can be anyone from a children’s librarian speaking about early reading\, to a gardener talking about what grows well in your area\, to a psychologist talking about child development\, to the Superintendent of Schools talking about school choices in your community — whatever the moms are interested in\, they can arrange a speaker for. \nIf you’re looking for other at-home mothers and want a wide variety of activities for you and your children\, we’re the group for you. We believe you are interesting and capable\, and we can’t wait to meet you!

SUMMARY:Madison Achiever's Toastmaster Club
DESCRIPTION:Are you feeling nervous? Does your normal confidence drain away at the thought of speaking? We offer support and encouragement in a nonjudgmental place to practice. Are you an experienced speaker but wonder if you can improve? We all strive to do better; word choice\, effective pauses\, and concise presentations are just some of the aspects we develop. As you gain confidence\, you might even challenge yourself to participate in a contest. The real goal is to compete against yourself and improve with practice. \nThe Toastmasters educational system\, Pathways\, is an exciting\, flexible and interactive way to develop your skills and help others in your club develop theirs. Pathways includes online training\, videos and interactive tests. There are hands-on\, real world projects available\, including more than 25 elective projects. These projects are designed to work in conjunction with a speech and include: training for activities such as attending a networking event\, working for a volunteer organization\, designing and leading a committee or managing an event\, creating a podcast or blog\, and gaining storytelling and humor skills. \nPreview the first Pathways project\, the Icebreaker speech\, here and learn more about the Pathways program here. Each project consists of the training details for at least one speech\, but might also include additional learning components for a variety of speaking\, management and leadership skills.
