SUMMARY:ACM Program Committee
DESCRIPTION:The Madison Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) was chartered on September 14\, 1953\, as the outgrowth of work which began in June 1947 by Ruth Pilger Andrews\, Paul Jones\, and others\, meeting as the Wisconsin Association of Church Musicians. WACM held annual hymn and choir festivals and organ recitals; its major legacy was the establishment in 1949 of the Louise Fulcher Memorial Library\, an extensive catalog of organ and choral music now part of the Fulcher-Scidmore Sacred Music Collection. Housed at the Janesville (WI) Public Library for many years\, the collection’s current home is at Rock Prairie United Presbyterian Church in Janesville. \nIn 1984\, with the encouragement of Edward Hugdahl of the UW-Extension\, the Association of Church Musicians was established to serve in a dual role with Madison Chapter AGO. The intention was to involve churches themselves in their musicians’ ongoing education by encouraging church memberships (in addition to AGO memberships) and to have a broad-based group designed to attract church musicians of every interest and at every proficiency level. More than 200 churches in 58 communities in south-central Wisconsin and northern Illinois have joined the ACM since its inception. \nACM publishes a monthly newsletter called Church Music Notes\, offers a year of programming and outreach as it relates to all facets of church music\, maintains a library of audio and video recordings and books\, offers used organ music for sale\, has a placement and substitute service available to members\, and provides scholarships for students pursuing organ studies. Recommended salary guidelines for church musicians\, along with sample contracts and standards of business practice\, were first published in 1982 as Procedures for Employing Church Musicians\, but had to be discontinued in 2017 as part of a settlement between national AGO and the FTC. However\, ACM/Madison Chapter AGO was proud to have its longtime employment guidelines serve as the basis for national AGO’s Employing Musicians in Religious Institutions (2020). \nThe ACM continues in its dual role as the Madison Chapter of the AGO for organists and organ enthusiasts\, and was also the umbrella organization for the Madison Chapter of the Choristers Guild from 1989 until it was declared inactive in 2016. \nACM administers the Ruth Pilger Andrews Organ Scholarship Fund\, an endowed fund established in recognition of one of the Madison Chapter’s founders for students of any age pursuing the study of organ. \nAssociation of Church Musicians Incorporated is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization\, EIN 39-1570927.

SUMMARY:Music Monday - Common Chord
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for an evening of musical fun full of community\, faith\, and food! The Holy COW will be on-site to distribute meals and fresh produce on the Madison Campus lawn! \nWith their unique combination of vocal\, instrumental\, songwriting and composing/arranging skills\, Common Chord creates an amazing sonic palette. Their repertoire includes vocal-centric pieces with four-part harmonies\, toe-tapping swingy numbers\, folk and bluegrass-flavored pieces\, bluesy tunes\, acoustic rock/pop songs and more…something for everyone\, with appeal to audiences of all ages. The group focuses on originals from each of three writers in the group plus unique covers from the likes of Tom Waits\, the Beatles\, Robert Johnson\, Paul Simon\, and George Gershwin\, and others. Instruments regularly used in live shows include guitars\, bass\, guitar\, mandolin\, fiddle\, clarinet\, bass clarinet\, cigar box guitar\, hand percussion\, and sometimes cello\, melodica\, and hammered dulcimer. \nCommon Chord was formed originally as a duo in 2015 by singer/songwriters and multi-instrumentalists Michael Bryant and Tracy Jane Comer\, who were members of the former Madison-area trio Sticky Fingers (early to mid-2000s). The two have worked as duo on occasion since then as well\, prior to forming Common Chord. The group quickly grew to five regular performers with the addition of singer/songwriter Bruce Buttel\, vocalist Delores Jenison\, and multi-instrumentalist Faye Bruggink. This powerhouse of combined talents yields a strong creative synergy…the musical whole is much greater than the sum of the parts.

SUMMARY:Music Monday - Top Shelf
DESCRIPTION:Come join us for an evening of musical fun full of community\, faith\, and food! The Holy COW will be on-site to distribute meals and fresh produce on the Madison Campus lawn! \nEqually comfortable on a festival stage\, at a winery or distillery\, a club\, on a restaurant patio\, at a concert-in-the-park setting\, on a dinner cruise\, or in a small listening room\, you won’t find a more versatile duo in the greater Madison area. \nTop Shelf is known for their magical way of bringing songs to life within a small format. Their extensive repertoire includes great songs from yesterday and today — rock & pop plus a touch of country\, jazz\, blues and standards\, with a generous “pour” of rock and pop from the ’70s & ’80s and into the ’90s. Award-winning musicians Tracy and Alan offer material for any live music situation with choices to appeal to all ages\, from “chill out and relax” to “get up and dance!” Expect lots of surprises\, as this power duo performs tunes rarely heard from local acts! \nTop Shelf is comprised of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Tracy Jane Comer and vocalist/percussionist Alan Maslowski\, both award-winning career musicians — seasoned performers/entertainers. Together they deliver beloved favorites\, forgotten gems\, and pleasant surprises that keep audiences engaged\, in an upscale yet fun presentation. \nTop Shelf has broad appeal\, attracting fans of media such as Magic 98 (FM Madison\, WI)\, Yacht Rock (XM) and The Bridge (XM).
