SUMMARY:Help Tackle Hunger — Play in Souper Bowl XXII
DESCRIPTION:You can help tackle hunger in our community by donating soup on Souper Bowl Sunday\, February 12th AND during Souper Bowl Week beginning with the kick-off to Souper Bowl XXII at the 6 p.m. service at Verona. There will be Soup Buckets at both campuses for you to bring soup during Souper Bowl Week February 5th – 12th. \nBuilding hours at Madison are Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m; Verona – Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; AND Friday 8:30 a.m. – Noon\, both campuses. \nPreferred soups include chicken noodle\, chicken with rice\, vegetable beef\, cream of mushroom\, cream of chicken\, any chunky style soups\, and ramen noodles. All the soup goes to the three Food Pantries supported by Good Shepherd: The Good Shepherd\, Allied\, and Badger Prairie Needs Network Food Pantries. \nWe are also asking for your help with monetary donations\, so the Pantry Coordinators can use the money to purchase needed food and other items given at the Food Pantries. Checks can be made to Good Shepherd with Souper Bowl in the memo line. If you donate cash\, please do so carefully and indicate that it is for the Souper Bowl. You can also donate online at gslcwi.com/SouperBowl. Select 30-Souper Bowl from the drop-down selections under General Fund. The Souper good news is you can make your monetary donations any time before Souper Bowl Sunday. \nOur goal is 2\,300 cans of soup\, more than the 2\,231 cans from Souper Bowl XXI.

SUMMARY:Ash Wednesday Worship Service
DESCRIPTION:On Ash Wednesday we begin our forty-day journey toward Easter with a day of fasting and repentance. Marking our foreheads with dust\, we acknowledge that we die and return to the earth. At the same time\, the dust traces the life-giving cross indelibly marked on our foreheads at baptism. While we journey through Lent to return to God\, we have already been reconciled to God through Christ. We humbly pray for God to make our hearts clean while we rejoice that “now is the day of salvation.” Returning to our baptismal call\, we more intentionally bear the fruits of mercy and justice in the world. \n

SUMMARY:The Chosen | Dinner and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:This Lent we’re going to gather around the stories of the Gospel in a new way – creating opportunities to encounter and discuss the story of Jesus with the Good Shepherd community. The Chosen is a multi-season television show that takes a deep look at Jesus and the lives of those he encountered as he began his ministry. This series presents the stories of those Jesus encounters with nuance\, depth and a focus on historical accuracy. \nStarting on Tuesday\, February 28 we will gather each Tuesday night in Peterson Hall at the Madison Campus to watch an episode\, share a simple meal and engage in large and small group discussion about the episode.\nThe evenings will start with a free community meal at 5:30 p.m. with the episode playing as people eat together. Following the episode\, there will be conversations around each table and as a large group.
