DESCRIPTION:August 11 – Trophy Husbands\nWhat first began as a cocktail lounge jazz group (originally called The Oxfords then Nathan Gerlach & Friends)\, the Trophy Husbands has evolved into a finely tuned band. The group originally met performing for worship services at Bethel Lutheran Church in Madison\, in the late 2000’s\, where many of them still perform today. With tight harmonies and creative arrangements of covers\, the band enjoys opening songs for improvised solos and taking Top 40 hits and making instrumental arrangements of them.\nJoin us this summer as we bring the joy of music\, good food\, and community beyond our walls and into the streets! DESCRIPTION:Help Make Back-to-School Kits for Lutheran World Relief\nEducation is one of the strongest tools a community has for breaking the cycle of poverty. Ensuring that girls attend school\, especially in places where their access is deprioritized\, has even stronger results. Lutheran World Relief School Kits contain essential supplies to help children — and in some cases\, adults — continue learning in the face of serious obstacles. That learning leads to a better life for them\, their families and their communities.\nOn September 7\, which is God’s Hands Our Work Sunday\, we will assemble school supply kits at both campuses after worship. At Madison\, we’ll meet in Peterson Hall. In Verona\, we’ll meet in the fellowship hall on the lower level. Our goal is to assemble 100 kits.\n\nWe will begin collecting school supply donations Sunday\, August 24th-Sunday\, September 7th. You can help by purchasing school supplies\, and dropping them off at the collection bins at both campuses.\n\nDonation Needs\nWe are looking to assemble 100 kits. Here’s a look at what is included in one kit:\n\nFOUR 70-sheet notebooks of wide- or college-ruled paper\, approximately 8” x 10 ½”; no loose leaf paper\nONE 30-centimeter ruler\, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other\nONE pencil sharpener\nONE pair of blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)\nFIVE unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers; secure together with a rubber band\nFIVE black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink); secure together with a rubber band\nONE box of 16 or 24 crayons\nONE 2 ½” eraser\n\n\nIf you’re able to buy all or a portion of the contents of one bag\, we’d be so grateful.\nQuestions? DESCRIPTION:GROWING UP IN THE DIGITAL AGE\nSCREENAGERS: Growing Up in The Digital Age has been screened more than 8\,000 times to 4 million people in more than 70 countries around the world.. With multiple screenings happening daily in communities across the globe\,  SCREENAGERS is the first feature documentary to explore the impact of screen technology on kids and offer parents and families proven solutions that work. What started out as a personal story for one has grown into a national movement\, helping millions of teens and their families navigate growing up in a world with instant access to screens. \nABOUT THE FILM\nPhysician and filmmaker\, Delaney Ruston decided to make SCREENAGERS when she found herself constantly struggling with her two kids about screen time. Ruston felt guilty and confused\, not sure what limits were best\, especially around mobile phones\, social media\, gaming\, and how to monitor online homework. Hearing repeatedly how other parents were equally overwhelmed\, she realized this is one of the biggest\, unexplored parenting issues of our time. \nAs a director\, Ruston turned the camera on her own family and others—revealing stories of messy struggles over social media\, video games\, academics and internet addiction.  We meet Hannah\, a 14-year old victim of social media bullying who struggled trying to hide her social media use from her mom. And Andrew\, whose love of video games turned into an addiction taking him from earning straight A’s to flunking out of college. \nInterwoven into these stories\, are cutting edge science and insights from thought leaders Peggy Orenstein\, Sherry Turkle\, Simon Sinek\, as well as leading brain scientists who present evidence on the real changes in the brain when kids are on screens. SCREENAGERS goes far beyond exposing the risks of screen time\, it reveals multiple approaches on how parents and educators can work with kids to help them achieve a healthy amount of screen time.
