A Special Edition of Name Tag Sunday
Learning more about pronouns as part of RIC Sunday on January 28Pronouns are words that are a shorthand form of a proper noun
Words like I, you, he, she, we, and they take the place of a full name to make it easier for us to communicate. Other than our names, pronouns are one of the primary ways others refer to us, so using pronouns that correctly reflect someone’s gender identity shows the same respect and hospitality as calling them by their correct name.
We can’t always tell someone’s gender by their name, dress, or appearance. Including our pronouns on our name tags makes sharing this part of our identity an easy part of introducing ourselves.
Sharing your gender pronouns is always optional, but if you feel comfortable, providing your pronouns helps us all feel welcome and included as our whole selves here at Good Shepherd. Regardless of whether you choose to share your own pronouns, please respect the pronouns that others share with you.
So, this Name Tag Sunday, we encourage you to live out Good Shepherd’s welcome and introduce yourself with your pronouns!
