Memorial Service for Marjorie L. Pope

A memorial service for Marjorie Pope will take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Good Shepherd’s Madison Campus at 11:00 a.m. It will be preceded by a one hour visitation.
Obituary
Marjorie L. Pope (formerly Hamann), age 94, passed away on May 3, 2023. Marjorie was born on June 21, 1928, in Milan, Michigan, to Nelle (Flegel) and Arthur Taylor. She attended Michigan State University where she met Albert Hamann. They got married in 1950 and moved to Madison, Wisconsin. She was a good mother and raised her family using her excellent cooking and sewing skills. Later, she was employed as a secretary. After a divorce, she married William (Bill) Pope on June 5, 1982. After their marriage, they resided at Marbella Condominiums and were both active on Marbella’s Board of Directors. They wrote a quarterly newsletter for several years and participated in many social activities. They thoroughly enjoyed their summer home near St. Germain, Wisconsin. After retirement, they spent 13 winters in Lakeland, Florida where they enjoyed the community life at Twin Palms Mobile Home Park. They shared nearly 40 years of love and togetherness. Marjorie was a long-time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was very social and thoroughly enjoyed her friends. Marj also enjoyed genealogy, keeping up with current events, and was a life-long avid reader.
Marjorie is survived by her children Barbara (Robert) Halverson, William (Barbara) Hamann, Rex (Keitha) Hamann, and Kristin (Paul) Esswein; grandchildren Sara (Paul) Shingler, Angie (Corey) Brandl, David Hamann, and Lisa (Kevin) Swiatczak, siblings David (Kay) Taylor and Richard (Judy) Taylor. She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Pope and siblings: Rosemary Bodley, Arthur Taylor and Earl Taylor.
There will be a visitation for Marjorie on Thursday, May 18 from 10-11 am at GOOD SHEPHERD LUTHERAN CHURCH, 5701 Raymond Rd. A memorial service will follow at 11 am.
