Join Us in Welcoming our Newest Intern to the Team!

Thanks to a grant from the Good Shepherd Foundation, this summer we are excited to welcome a new intern to our staff team! Peyton David, a Journalism student from UW-Madison will be serving as a member of the Media & Communications team and assisting with many projects and initiatives. Please be sure to say hello to Peyton when you see her around Madison and Verona over the coming weeks! 

Meet Peyton

My favorite thing about Madison is its different, defined niches. There’s a plethora of groups across the city that knits for causes, bicycling groups that care about biker and pedestrian safety, gatherings of climbers that always have advice on hand, leaders dedicated to combating homelessness. Whatever that niche may be, each group works to enrich the lives of others. This was the first thing I noticed when I moved to Madison from New York three years ago and it was the first thing I noticed when I interviewed at Good Shepherd to be the media intern for the summer.

Now starting my senior year at UW-Madison (which I’m in deep denial about), I’ve worked across the community in many capacities. I’m studying strategic communications, legal studies and criminal justice, which has led me to managing The Badger Herald, to do case management work at Just Bakery, to build a journalism program for youth experiencing homelessness, a fellowship to enhance interfaith dialogue on campus, and more. Outside of my work, I’m a climber, a member of the Jewish community, a future member of UW’s knitting club, a public transportation enthusiast, and am passionate about all things Stella’s spicy hot and cheesy bread (despite being lactose intolerant, which I am, again, in deep denial about). I am who I am because I’ve found people who are equally, if not more, passionate about the groups they’re a part of. No matter what, I’m surrounded by people who are proud to be doing the work that they’re doing.

Above all else, my greatest values are community and unity. I’ve only just begun my work, but I can already tell that Good Shepherd is a great unifier. Its programs – from the food pantry to the Norma Jean Quilters group to the Stop the Violence March every July – show that this is more than a place of worship, it’s a community of leaders.

We’re here together to build something greater than ourselves, but what stands out to me is that we’re all here for our own reasons. This summer, one of my goals is to share your story, in whatever capacity you want to share with me. I want to know your driving forces and motivations in life, what your faith means to you, your interests and passions, and so much more. You are what makes the church what it is, and I’m excited to be able amplify your voices. So if you see me, probably holding a camera and a legal pad, come and say hi. I want to get to know you.
