Strong and Courageous: Living by Faith

A Six-Part Sermon Series from 2 Corinthians

The church in Corinth, which is now a part of south-central Greece, was founded by the Apostle Paul some 30 or more years after Jesus Christ’s life, death and resurrection.  The church exhibited many of the characteristics of any community of human beings: they sometimes disagreed, often times violently. But in the end, the church members tried their best to remain followers of Christ in a decidedly non-Christian area of the Roman Empire.

In the second letter to the Corinthians, Paul writes about the importance of forgiveness in the life of the community and the new agreement that people can find with each other, despite their differences, in the Spirit of the Living God.  Paul revealed himself to be a torn and vulnerable leader in this letter but used his own story to show how God could use anyone to further the Good News of Jesus Christ in the world!

In this spirit, Good Shepherd’s pastors are excited to walk through Second Corinthians with you over six weeks this summer.  What does it mean to truly live our faith wherever we are in a world that seems increasingly more divided and polarized?

Furthermore, in conjunction with our Strong and Courageous vision process: what does it mean for a church to be made up of people from a diverse background of stories, circumstances, hurts and joys?  Can we too find ourselves unified in our common Christian faith?

I invite you to walk with us through these next six weeks as we explore the faith-filled life from six perspectives:

Politics and the circumstances of life can often be used to pull people apart.  In Jesus Christ we find that all of who we are is already known AND forgiven.  Can we practice that life with each other?  Come and see!
