The Story of Shepherd Hands

Shepherd Hands started at Good Shepherd in January 2003.  A group of women saw a need for crochet and knitted shawls for people in our congregation and community who were experiencing difficult life circumstances.

Prayers are said as we work, for the person receiving the shawl. Shawls are given out by the Parish Nurse and can be given to family members or friends in need.

One member of our group made a shawl for herself from the yarn remnants.  As she wears it she is reminded of the people that she prayed for who were warmed in God’s love.  Another touching story from a member who was asked to knit prayer shawls for two little girls who lost their mother to cancer later became her granddaughters.

When Pastor Chris visited our knitting group, we presented him with a knitted stole made from squares knit by members of our group.  We make chemo hats, scarfs and hats for the Clothes Closet and Food Pantry.  We  send knitted items to Pine Lake Indian Reservation and teddy bears to Africa as part to the “Mother Bear Project”.  A new project is making blankets to be presented to the family of a completed Habitat House.
