Meeting Notes July 18, 2019
Devotionals: “Hear, Oh Israel, the Lord our God, The Lord is one; you shall the Lort
with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.”
1) Minutes will be posted on website and shared drive: other groups can then build on
our work, point out time and other conflicts, etc.
2) Looking for vice-chair
3) Brainstorming to develop Faith Formation statement coordinated with new church
statement: “By the grace of God and the love of Jesus Christ we will meet each
person where they are, and invite them into transformative relationships with God,
each other, and the communities in which we live and serve. We will cultivate and
empower lay leaders to support this life-changing work at Good Shepherd and
beyond.”
a) promote the growth of an individual’s faith through gatherings intentionally
designed to foster spiritual development
b) making space for each person and group to be transformed into the likeness
of Christ for the sake of others
c) The purpose of the Faith Formation Committee is to provide opportunity for
cultivating growth in the practice and understanding of our life in Christ
d) concrete actions: organize at least one transformational faith formation group
activity per semester; create framework and support for small groups; create
list of books that might be used by individuals or groups that touches on faith
formation (could start with books from GS library)
e) model spiritual disciplines; create opportunities that stretch and change us
spiritually
f) facilitate communication between worship team and preaching pastor
4) Will “Animate” 7-week class proposed by pastors mesh with our (GS’s)vision? What
is our role in positively influencing the pulpit?
5) Do we “hunger and thirst” for God?
6) Preliminary committee statement: “Faith formation is foundational to the
Congregation’s mission. The Faith Formation Committee will create spaces to come
together and grow our relationship with Christ [in order to discern our mission in the
world].
