Growing and Giving: A Summer in the Food Pantry Garden
This summer, we’ve had another wonderful season in the Food Pantry Garden at Good Shepherd! Together, we’ve grown 96,000 pounds of produce to share with food pantries across our community.
One exciting addition this year was a raised-bed herb garden! Alongside Pastor Dara’s leadership and our amazing summer garden interns Tessa and Daphne, eight groups of middle school youth volunteered their time and energy in the garden this summer, helping bring the harvest to life.
We also had the privilege of working with retired Pastor Jeff Wild, who is conducting a study on turning guns into garden tools—a meaningful reminder of how growth and peace can go hand in hand. Additionally, our three beehives are thriving, and we anticipate a record honey harvest this season!
Our Good Shepherd Garden is proud to be part of the Madison Area Food Pantry Gardens, a collaborative effort ensuring that everyone has access to fresh, healthy food. None of this would be possible without the many volunteers and supporters who gave their time, energy, and resources this summer.
Thank you for helping us grow, give, and share the abundance of God’s creation with our neighbors! Learn more about our Food Pantry Garden at gslcwi.com/garden
