Join the Loaves and Fishes Ministry in Serving Our Neighbors
At Good Shepherd, one of the ways we live out our call to love and serve our neighbors is through the Loaves and Fishes Outreach Ministry. Each month, on the fourth Thursday, our volunteers prepare and serve a noon meal at Luke House on Ingersoll Street north of downtown Madison. This important ministry provides nourishment and hospitality to our homeless and underemployed neighbors, reminding them that they are seen, cared for, and loved.
Right now, we are looking for Food Providers to join us in this ministry. Beginning with the October 23 meal, we need:
-
Two volunteers to donate a 4 lb. Farmland ham (available at Woodman’s)
-
Two volunteers to assemble a potato casserole (to be baked on-site at Luke House)
We are also seeking three substitute food servers who can be called upon when needed. Servers gather at Good Shepherd Madison at 9:30 a.m. on meal date to collect donations and carpool to Luke House. Together, the group prepares the meal, serves from 11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. with clean up to follow, and returns to Good Shepherd around 1:15 p.m. On-the-job training is provided, so no prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to serve with a joyful heart.
This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with others in our congregation, build relationships with the wider Madison community, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of our neighbors.
If you would like to join this ministry, whether by donating food or serving at Luke House, please contact Judy Hoard or call 608-271-6633 ext. 1000 for more details.
Together, let’s continue sharing Christ’s love through service, one meal at a time.
