Tree Lane Apartments

Tree Lane Apartments

As part of Madison’s Housing First Initiative, Tree Lane Apartments located on the far west side of Madison opened 45 apartments to homeless families in mid June 2018. Currently the Apartments house 49 adults and 97 children and are being helped by a staff of 5 social workers from The Road Home. While the families have successfully transitioned from homelessness, retaining jobs and providing steady schooling for their children, they still have many basic needs like furniture, bedding, towels, etc. God’s Hands and Feet, a women’s service group at Good Shepherd, hosted a “free” rummage and meal at Tree Lane Apartments in March. Thanks to the generosity of our members at Good Shepherd, 9 van loads of household items, bedding and small furniture were taken to Tree Lane Apartment. And yet, there is always need.

Friends of Tree Lane Apartments – a group of concerned and interested neighbors as well as members at Advent Lutheran and Community of Hope UCC (known as Madison Christian Community). This group started by connecting with the social workers to find out how they could help and have stepped in to provide needed items (cleaning supplies, food, diapers, etc), driving residents to doctor’s appointments and food pantries as well as providing activities for the children during school breaks. Madison Christian Community have an ongoing donation drive at their church and a local library for the “wish list” of household items. God’s Hands and Feet have become a part of this group and you can also! A Sign Up Genius is available to donate.

Donation Bins – coming soon to both campus’ are donation bins dedicated to Tree Lane Residents. While Madison Christian Community’s donation drive will focus on household items, in collaboration with them and in order to avoid duplication of necessities, God’s Hands and Feet is focusing on African American hair care, African American lotions and deodorant, as these items cannot be purchased with food stamps.

Pray for our Youth Campers

This summer we have over 50 youth heading to sleepaway church camps and many more who stick around the Madison area to attend or help at day camps too. July 14-19th is our most concentrated week as we have a bunch of 1st-12th grade heading to Pine Lake Camp. God is always with us, but it is often at camp when youth experience a strong awareness of God’s presence. So as a congregation, let’s be in prayer that yes, these camp experiences be fun and safe, but more than that! Let’s pray that youth can make meaningful relationships, connect with God, experience new things, and come back with a full heart that they might bless others.

AMPED Fun Nights

Completed 5th-8th graders, come join us for the July AMPED Fun Nights! Friends are welcome, RSVPs are helpful, and if you can contribute $3 to help cover food and activity costs, that’s appreciated! Thursday, July 25th at Verona Campus – AMPED Olypmics: Come “compete” in goofy games and cheer on the other competitors. Make sure to wear closed toed shoes for this one!

Creation Worship

For the healing of creation, we pray to you, O God. On Sunday, July 14, we will gather to rejoice in the creation of the world. God in infinite compassion has lovingly formed our planet and all that live within it. God declared creation good and entrusted us to care for it along with each other. On this Sunday, we will reflect on the marvels and wonders of creation while renewing our commitment as good stewards of the earth. More specifically, we will recognize the work of our Creation Keepers ministry and Good Shepherd’s Food Pantry Garden, and worship using portions from A Liturgy for Earthkeeping; a worship service for the broader church commissioned in honor of Luther College’s sesquicentennial.
