Welcome our high school interns to the team!

Thanks to a grant from the Good Shepherd Foundation, this summer we are excited to welcome five high school aged interns to the team! This summer, each intern serve as leaders for Vacation Bible School, as well as assist with church initiatives. The interns range from ages 15 to 17 years-old and have been involved in Good Shepherd in a number of ways over the years. If you see any of them around the church, come say hi!

Meet Grace

Grace Nemeth

Hi my name is Grace Nemeth. I am 15-years-old and just finished my sophomore year at Edgewood High School of the Sacred Heart. At Edgewood, I am a part of the cross country and track team. I am also the Webmaster for Edgwood’s Key Club. This club consists of students at Edgewood who are passionate about service work and frequently go out into our community to serve. Outside of school, I cross country ski on the Blackhawk Nordic Ski Team. I have been on the Blackhawk Nordic team for six years and have been traveling with the team for four years. I have been affiliated with Good Shepherd for 7 years. I have been a part of the Amped program and am part of the high school youth group. I traveled with Good Shepherd to Houston as a part of the ELCA National Youth Gathering in June of 2018. I also have gone with my fellow youth on the Fall Retreat the past two years. This summer I am really excited to be an intern, of course and to train for cross country in the fall!

Meet Heather

Heather Swartz

My name is Heather Swartz, and I have been at Good Shepherd for roughly ten years. I am 17-years-old and will be a senior at James Madison Memorial High School this fall. Outside of Good Shepherd, I play flute and piccolo at school and in various ensembles across the state, and even conduct sometimes! You might not know that I play quite a few secondary instruments: French Horn, guitar, recorder, and piano. This summer I am excited to go all out at VBS, get messy at camp Create-It, and see all the smiles on kid’s faces! I was an intern last summer as well, and before that, I volunteered at too many Good Shepherd camps and events to count! I love my job here at Good Shepherd and appreciate the support this congregation gives to our youth.

Meet Kirstin

Kirstin Poppen

My name is Kirstin Poppen, I will be a junior at Verona Area High School this coming fall. My family has been members of Good Shepherd since before I was even born, and I have many great memories at this church. I have attended many Good Shepherd camps over the years, so I’m very excited to be an intern this year! Outside of church, I have a passion for soccer, reading and drawing. This summer, I look forward to working with lots of kids and creating close relationships with the other interns!

Meet Maddy

Maddy Kelley

Maddy Kelley

Hi, my name is Maddy Kelley and I am going to be a senior at Verona Area High School. I have been going to Good Shepherd since 6th grade and I absolutely love attending church here! I have also participated in the high school fall retreat for the past three years and would highly recommend it because it is so fun and you get so close with people in such a short amount of time. Outside of Good Shepherd, I play a lot of volleyball for school and club as well as high school basketball. I also love to make crafts like friendship bracelet and hats. This summer I am most excited to take a trip with my family and get to know the other interns better.

Meet Megan

Megan Diller

I’m Megan, and this fall I’ll be a senior at Verona! I’ve been going to Good Shepherd my whole life, and actually got baptized in the Badger Ride cafeteria before the Verona campus got built. I’ve went to church school and AMPED, and volunteered at camps before I became an intern last summer and this summer. Outside of church, I play the flute, and enjoy reading books and am a co-president of my school’s Model United Nations team.
